I had a beautiful mandavilla and it is almost dead from mealy bugs...I have tried most everything from WalMart and still no luck.Got any good ideas for me?This happened to me one other time and it was impossible to save my mandavillas.
On smaller plants, a q-tip dipped in alcohol will kill them... but I doubt I'd have the patience to go over a big mandevilla vine that way. A bad infestation of mealies can be hard to beat without really harsh pesticides (the kind that cost $100 per bottle and are generally only used by greenhouse growers). If you don't have pets that might take a nibble of the leaves, you could try a systemic product -- a drench that is taken up by the roots so that the leaves have pesticide in them to kill or discourage sucking insects. I think Bayer makes a good one.
