Covered my c/l years and years ago with English Ivey. All I have to do is mow wherever I don't want it to come into the yard. Green year-round. I think of a privacy fence (wood, plastic) as a hot box. This helps clean and cool the air. Shade or sun.
That's a good idea LouC, I agree that it must help open things up and clean the air. I'm always afraid to tell people to plant English Ivy, if they don't know it has the possibility of becoming invasive...just like I don't mention Trumpet Vine or Virginia Creeper, on principle. But if it works for you, then that's great. I'd love to see a pic if you have one! (though you'd have to start a new comment thread.)
Tragedy! Neighbor used his weedeater too close to the fence and killed almost all of the roots. Had to remove it after 40 years of training into the fence. Lots of work ahead.
