I'm new to Dave's Garden, and a resident of Central Texas (Waco Area). My brand new chain link fence is a 'blank page' for native honeysuckle and trumpet vine and, on the long part and along the carport, purple wisteria. One 8' length between the porch and gate is another Texas native - Esperanza (Yellow Bells, Hardy Yellow Trumpet, Trumpet-flower, Yellow Elder). Not exactly a vine, but a fast growing shrub. the back and other side fence have 10 ft tall mauve double Althea's (Rose of Sharon).
the side of my small storage is hidden by Jerusalem Artichoke. OK, my house is 82 years old, only myself and the fence is new. But I am having a ball making stepping stones and hunting down natives (plants, not native people!) and planting and baby-ing them along! I have plans for a small Koi pool, with the stepping stones wandering around the yard between different flowerbeds and points of interest. Wish me luck! Any ideas are welcome!
Oh, and I have Mandevilla vine crawling up the side of my front porch.
Alimech, that sounds gorgeous!! I am originally from Houston, so I know all about the wonders of Esperanza. The rest sounds absolutely wonderful - seems like you utilize vines to their fullest. If you haven't tried Coral Vine or Rangoon Creeper, they might really make an impact in your heat. Good luck with the pond- really adds to the landscape; I do so love my own koi pond. Thanks for reading, Susanne
