Every year there's a new 'first dahlia.' Last year it was Illoquin's "Park Record" which is slow this year. Go figure. This year, it is my own French Doll that was first to bloom. No special treatment. Probably started inside in a milk carton of soil in early May, and perhaps just planted as a sprouted tuber.
But here she is: a wonderful gift in 07 from Lenjo and one of my new favorites in the yellows. I let this one stay on the plant for days, and the colors blend and mellow compared to what I had cut early last year. Thanks Lenjo!
The dahlias are all mostly going gangbusters in our finally summerlike weather. So, more photos to follow in a couple weeks.
