I got this plant recently as a gift. The giver said she thought it was a monkey plant, but it doesn't look a bit like any of the photos I've found of Ruellia makoyana. My husband thought it might be some kind of schefflera, but again it didn't really look quite right. The leggy stems of the plant have been braided to make a little tree trunk, so I have no idea about its natural form, but it was sold as a houseplant in this northern New York region. Anyone have any ideas about what this might really be called?
This first image is the plant on our deck in natural light but not in the direct sun. The plant is about 18" tall, including the pot.
Looks like a money tree, Pachira aquatica [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com] Looks like it could use a pinch of fertilizer, the leaves look a little chlorotic.
