Excellent article on Trachycarp palms. They are very common in Austin, TX. I have always assumed that the vast majority are T. fortunei but, in fact, I don't know for sure. I'm now going to be checking them all out to see if I can spot any differences---maybe there are some of these other species in amongst the T. fortunei. They do very well in our extremely hot and long summers. As you might imagine there are lots of Washingtonias planted here as well.
