My husband and I toured The Hermitage, President Andrew Jackson's home, in Tennessee in early May of this year. There was a giant Empress Tree growing outside the big house back towards the kitchen. I picked up some tan colored downy looking seed pods from under the tree, thinking that it was an individual seed. I planted about four of them. These plants came up, but I had to separate them because several came up right together. Then I found the pictures of Empress Tree seeds on the internet and learned that each pod had many tiny seeds in them. So, I believe that these are baby Empress Trees for the huge tree at The Hermitage. Do they look like they are? I was afraid there might have been some other seeds in the dirt I collected from an old pot, but because of where the seeds came up, I'm pretty sure they are the Empress Trees. I appreciate any input. Thanks.

Jean

I googled for images of seed pods from the Royal Paulonia tree and got this: [HYPERLINK@images.google.com] Click on that first photo and see if it looks like your seed pods.

edited to add another link with some photo images: [HYPERLINK@images.google.com]

Not sure what it is, but not Paulownia. The leaves have the wrong shape and texture (glabrous, not hairy).

It isn't paulownia. Looks more like some kind of pansy.

To me the leaves in the picture appear succulent in nature and very scalloped.I don't think it's a pansy or viola, but it could just be my perception of the photo.Lynn

You're right it sure does.My immediate impression for who knows what reason was Kalanchoe blossfeldiana or something similar.Lynn
