I suspect that this is a yellow bear, the larva of the Virginian tiger moth (Spilosoma virginica; Lepidoptera: Arctiidae). The caterpillars of this species are highly variable in color, but are characterized by their very long setae (hairs). See [HYPERLINK@farm2.static.flickr.com] for an example of a larva and [HYPERLINK@farm1.static.flickr.com] for an adult moth. This species is widely distributed in the eastern US and southern Canada, and feeds on a wide variety of plants, but does not seem to cause serious damage.
