I was told these randomely growing plants in my garden, were weeds. I set about with Roundup and terminated most of them, then while at my girlfriends Isaw one and asked her what they were, she id'd as Toad lilies. They dont look like the Toad Lilies I ordered from Garden online.
Can you help?
I have always had good luck with this Forum.

You're right, they're not toadlilies (Tricyrtis. spp.). I'm not sure about the one on the left but, the one on the right is some sort of hardy terrestrial orchid, like Calanthe. I'm glad you didn't kill them all off because I would consider them a blessing. Hopefully someone will come along shortly to ID them more specifically.

Once again, it is helleborine orchid (Epipactis helleborine). Those things are really getting around!

I Googled the image and read the plant gets from one to three feet tall,I would LOVE that but mine (new house old garden) are short.
I will defenatly not do the Roundup thing again.
Try to transplant and seeif a different spot produces "greatness"
THANKS EVERYBODY
You are the best.

I don't know why I think of you as being four hours behind. Now it makes more sense that you're up. And if you're geeky enough to stop in here during breakfast, I hope your friends/family/co-workers make as much fun of you as mine do me! :)

I just LOVE gardeners.
On the Northeast Garden forum there was a thread about other peoples opinion of us.
The thread went on for a week or more.
Opinion is unanimous, we are nuts.
Someone just sent a fellow gardener six toads by FedEx
Where else but on DG would you see that happen.
