This vine started growing around the same time as our pumpkins, so originally we thought one of the pumpkin seeds had gone astray and left it... as it grows, it doesn't look like a pumpkin. The picture includes one flower, one leaf, and a growing tip in hopes that this will aid in identification. The flowers open in the mid-morning (after the summer-squash flowers begin to close) and are about 1" in diameter. The squash beetles seem to like it, so I suspect it is some type of vining squash. I am wondering if it is a hybrid from one of the early summer squash fruit that went bad. We have zucchini, spaghetti, yellow, and crooked neck yellow squash in the garden and wild cucumber in the yard. As this sprouted the same time as the pumpkins, I doubt it is related. Also have tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant planted nearby - not sure if any of those could cross pollinate. Thanks in advance!
