I grew up blessed with a huge veg garden and cherry tomatoes were part of it. Us kids would chase each other around the yard with a cherry tomato in each cheek. When we got close enough, we would smack our cheeks and spray tomato pulp onto the vicitm. Of course we ate a lot of them too!

I am going to try growing some of my own this spring. Thanks!

ROFL! That beats spitting watermelon seeds or cherry pits, any day. :-)

I hope you have good luck with your plants next year!

Fury,
What cultivar did you grow and how did you like them?

If you're canning by the boiling water bath method and have just a few jars to do (especially if you're willing to put up smaller jars), you don't have to have a big canning kettle. My grandmother used to do pints and half-pints in a regular saucepan on the stove. Big canning pots are pretty reasonable at places like WalMart or Ace Hardware, but they do take up space in an apartment kitchen! :-)

You don't need a pressure canner to put up tomatoes, but I think many people opt to add a little lemon juice to make sure the tomatoes (which can vary) are sufficiently acid to can safely by the boiling water bath method. Your local extension service or the Ball Blue Book are good sources of information on safe canning practices. :-)
