I have enjoyed my wind chimes for years and now they no longer make any sound at all. Is there someplace I can take them to to fix them?

Well hello, Somerville!!!

Vera, I don't know of any such place but I would first check that your chimes are hanging freely. What are they made of? Is it a material that should last a long long time, or is it something that is showing signs of wear? Consider RE-stringing them. This isn't something I've yet had to attempt but other people, in another one of the threads following this article, have done so successfully. And lastly, maybe CLEANING them gently with a bit of mild dish-washing liquid and warm water will do the trick, if they've got built-up scum and grunge from having to chime so close to the Galleria. Please let me know how it works out!

I'll be out a lot of today but i should be back by this afternoon to read your reply. Can't wait to find out!

This is a long shot, but that happened to me with one of my wind chimes that has metal tubes. After inspecting it, I found that those pesky dirt dobbers had filled the top of each tube with dirt. I cleaned it, and lo and behold, they are now almost back to normal.

Carrie gave you some excellent advice. I also would like to know if it works.

Vera,
If your windchimes are made of tubes, check the inside of the tube for obstructions made from critters. I usually have to ram a rod through mine every year to clear the dirt doblers out.

Vera,

Since you live, as I do, in a fairly urban area, I'd bet these writers are correct, and your chime has tubes clogged with urban gunk. Please let us know - we all want to hear how the story ends!

Carrie
