We Have four chokecherry trees that provide shade for one of our shade gardens. On several occassions, our tree's blossoms have smelled like..."urine". My 7 YO daughter calls them the pee pee trees. Is this common? It doesn't sound like anyone else has complained about the smell. Let me know.
I have to agree with you. This Spring, when I would walk by the chokecherry tree, it would have such a nice smell from the blossoms. I cut off a few branches and took them in the house and put into a vase. The next day I kept smelling Urine and I checked everything from the bathroom to all the corners on three levels of the house thinking our dog, who never had an accident from puppy on decided to go in the house. After not finding anything I got near the blossoms and the smell hit me. Needless to say, from now on I will enjoy the blossoms on the tree and bring my lilacs in for smell.
I love the trree though. It turns dark purple all summer and darker in the fall. Makes a nice shade tree and the birds love it to perch in before hitting the bird feeders and humming bird feeders hanging from the branches. You should see the birds in the fall when the berries are ripe. The whole tree moves till they eat them all.
