Does anyone know if using a steamer on hardwood floors is safe? It seems to me that it dries so fast that maybe it won't harm the wood.
Thank you in advance.

I'm assuming it's one of those steam mop things and not a carpet steamer? If so then the ones I've seen say they're safe on finished hardwood. I've got tile all through my house so I don't have any personal experience with it on hardwood.

Right ecrane, it's a steam mop, the Shark Steamer. I was hoping someone here would post that they've used it on their hardwood floor and that it worked wonderfully. I would love to find something that cleans the gap between each plank also, maybe the steamer would lift the dirt out of there.

I wouldn't count on it cleaning very well in between the planks--my one frustration with my steam mop on tile is that it does not clean the grout very well, and as a matter of fact since the grout is a little lower than the tile, it actually pushes dirty water down into the grout where it will stay unless I come back over with a cloth and wipe out the dirty water from the grout lines. Of course if I kept my floor a little cleaner in the first place then I wouldn't have to worry, but who has time for that! LOL If you've got gaps between your planks I'd also worry a little more about it, I think on a finished surface it won't cause any damage, but if you have gaps where it can get down between the planks I would think it could cause problems because it could come in contact with the unfinished side/bottom part of the wood.

I have that one too and honestly I like my steam mop better. My Floor Mate never did a very good job sucking back up the water it put on the floor (maybe there was something wrong with mine though) plus it's a little big and heavy for lugging up and down stairs (I have a 2 story house with tile floors throughout).

Yes, when you buy it there is a product that comes with it for wood floors. I have to play with mine to get it to suck up right but it works pretty good. Have a steam mop but haven't tried it yet.

It isn't recommended to steam clean your hardwood floors guys. It is never recommended - read over your manufacturer warranty or guide.. its in there. When you see these infomercials that steam clean your hardwood... Just think about it... Do you think steam on hardwood floor (which isn't recommended for a climate of HIGH humidity) Does that make ANY sense? I know , I'm guilty too
