Just discovered this forum and am amazed at the artistic talent and ability represented here. I suppose every artist has their own story and experiences, but I am curious how you discovered your talent(s)...were you always able to paint, draw, create, etc.? Grandma Moses keeps me hopeful that there's an artist in me somewhere just waiting to be freed-lol.
Hi Plantmover.
I've been an artist all my life just discovered what it was when I was about 12.
We are wired that way at birth.
Many people have it but don't use it.
I was lucky to have parents who allowed me to develop it.
It is A talent, humans have many, singing, dancing, flower arranging, showing others how to do stuff etc ,the list is endless.
If you "feel" you want to do something, just start or take a workshop for beginners, your "will to do" will carry you along.

I was born to it. I still have some crayon drawings I did when I was 3 and 4 years old! ( My mother saved them. ) I still like the subject matter...bees and ducks! I have only recently discovered digital cameras and I'm kind of manic about photography these days. I think we can always discover new interests and talents. Art comes in so many forms. Go for it!
aww, how sweet that she saved those for you. It's amazing what can be done with digital photography...have fun with your newest creative outlet and thanks for the affirmation!
I come from a sort of wacky family - got my first camera (a Kodak Brownie, long gone) when i was in third grade and was actually encouraged to take pictures, moved on to 35 mm and now digital. The only enclosed place in the world that I don't have a horrible bout of claustrophobia is/was in a dark room. I'm pretty much all digital now - love Photoshop Elements. I was also encouraged to write very young and taught to sew when I was 10, so it only made sense, now that I' sort of retired from farming, to toss them all together and see what came out. I have had so much fun the last two years exploring new ways to work with fabric and bring both poetry and photos into it that I don't have time enough to get all the pieces done!
Keep on sewing Kathleen!
Did I miss any examples of your work?
Would you post some of it?
I remember my grandmother showing me how to make doll dresses when I was young and then embroidery, thats when I discovered there was a mathmetical association with everything including knitting.
Don't get me wrong I'm not a math wiz, made pottery for years, body broke down so I picked up watercolor painting and woodb;ock printing.
Plantmover Just keep drawing, do a drawing a day and see how it comes back to you.
to be honest, I never thought I could draw, but danged if it don't turn out that I can! I tell my DGD that they are doodles, and she says, a little more than doodles! The only way you'll find out what you can do is to do it.
I love how you've brought all those abilities together to create such beautiful artwork, Kathleen. I especially like November's Ragged Edges! I, too, learned to sew when I was young...on an old treadle machine. :)
I've got ambitions to paint, draw, sew, craft...CREATE. My DH bought me an easel at Christmas and the kids bought me acrylic paint supplies for my birthday to get me started. Now I'm in the process of converting my DD's bedroom into my "meadow" (as my DH says). I saw the studio postings and have been drooling ever since. Trying to figure out what configuration of work station to set up. Ikea has some functional pieces that are inexpensive and would suffice.
ge1836, I like your suggestion of a drawing a day. I've promised my SIL some landscaping ideas for her backyard makeover, so that's a good starting point.
I appreciate everyone's input and encouragement - many thanks!
