| In a month or so, I will be likely be hosting another swap. I would like your ideas and what you would like for this swap. Let me list some possibilities and I would love to hear variations to consider!
1. We pick a theme/color for the swap and we each sew the SAME pattern and color for each partipant. A sample of one swap using this format: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/811417/
2. We each pick our own pattern but sew it in the colors chosen by each participant. example of this: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/880398/
3. We each chose the color and pattern that everyone will send to us. example of this http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/814234/
4. We pick a particular fabric and it must be incorporated into the block pattern. (To my knowledge this has not been done here and the disadvantage is finding a fabric we all have access to but this is possible, especially if we stick with something like "polka dots", "gingham" or other standard fabrics.)
Do we limit to members only? Do we limit the COUNTRIES we will participate with to contain costs? Do we mail DIRECT and cut the expenses of the host? What are your thoughts on the LENGTH of time the swap should span? (From beginning to deadline.) So far we have been working on 12 inch blocks, do we want to change to a different size? If so, do we increase the NUMBER of blocks sent? Speak up folks!!! Let's shape up another swap that meets your needs!

| I really liked this one you just did. i know you would want to maybe change it up some, but my talent would not let me to be able to do any of the real fancy fancy blocks. i am doing good to get the corners to match up. If it were to be where everyone picked their block they wanted i would have to not get in and that would be ok. |

| It's very interesting but like luvs2garden2000 I'm afraid not to be able. If blocks are easy to do why not ? But as you said the problem with me if i get in is the difficulty with costs to send the blocks and I have no idea about them...

| Elen, the easiest, least expensive way to handle your postage probably would be for all of us to mail to the hostess (me) and then I send YOU one box with all of your blocks in it. The least expensive way for YOU, is for you to mail all of them to me in ONE box, I would then put yours in with mine when I mail them out to each individual. I am ONLY guessing that would work but we'll check it out.
Elen, check what postage would be for 6 oz to USA, zip 83714. I'm guessing at the weight for 11 blocks in some kind of mailer. |

| Oh yes it's a very good idea. I'll check the postage for your zip ok but you be sure there is no problem with the other participants otherwise I'll dont get in (you know it is not very important). |

Somewhere I saw a sheet that showed "101 ways to turn 1/2 square triangles". It was a 16 patch (4 X 4) using just 1/2 square triangles & squares. It was amazing how many patterns you could come up with. Something like that might be fun to do.
Or how about court house steps, or another log cabin variation.

| I had Elen check on the price of shipping ONE box (or envelope) that is roughly 8oz. I figure if we send me ALL of her blocks I can mail them cheaper than each of us mailing individually. She would also do the same, mail me ALL of her blocks and I would distribute them when I mail mine to each of you. It will slow down the blocks you get from me, but I think still be worth it. I'll do more checking and get back to the forum with info. |

| psychw2 (and all) - how about a flower basket? I have a pattern that I simplified to be mostly squares and 1/2 square triangles. The only triangle you need is rather big (main basket piece. The block finishes a bit bigger than 12" (14" - I think). We could all choose a different color for the "flowers".
If anyone watches the Fons & Porter shows, they showed a similar one a couple weeks ago.
The one pictured here is a pattern from a book, so I can't share the log cabin setting instructions, but since I reconfigured the block, that I can share. And I can give sizes to make plain triangles for the diagonal setting.

| Guess I should get moving and get quilting. I finally got my floors finished (after a water issue back in May) yesterday and furniture moved back in place in living & dining rooms and have been putting all the little (breakable) items back out.
I'm actually putting together a yard sale box. I think I'm entering a "unclutter" phase. I know we are moving in 2 years, and the new house is smaller, so I may as well start thinning now.
I also plan to start sorting through my fabrics in the not too distant future. I have piles of fleece, wools, clothing fabric, etc and all I really do any more is quilt.
Hope every has something fun planned for the weekend. |

| I for one usually run in the opposite direction of a basket block. Not had a good experience making them; however, I love this one and would love, let me repeat that LOVE, to do this one. Great quilt!!!!! I think the pattern that was being used in some classes I took had something to do with not having any success. This is much simplier from what I am reading. I had one teacher who thought the more pieces and stranger sizes meant a nicer block.
Qwilter, good luck down sizing., I tried to that too when I moved and the only thing I downsized was my furniture--keeped all my fabrics and books, patterns etc. Guess that shows where my priorties were. What is the size of the log cabin block? |

barefootT - nice quilt. I keep saying I'm going to do a 2 color quilt but it never happens.
I never did a flower basket before this one. I'm not into zillions of tiny pieces and I truely Hate triangles. No matter what I do, or how careful I am, they stretch.

I really am excited about this pattern! Glad to see you priorities are in order. Just had trouble explaining to my children. Finally told them it was my business not theirs. LOL

| Ok, ok... hehehehe... we don't have to wait to organize another swap. Using the basket of flowers would be fun. This doesn't have to be any "big deal", I'll open up who would like to participate in this swap on another thread. Let me bounce a few ideas off each of you, give me YOUR opinion!!!
"September's Swap" would be the flower basket pattern, with each participate making 2 blocks per member in ONE color of flower. I'm thinking 2 blocks because I'm not confident we can get more than 6 total of us. I'm proposing that you IF Elen choses to participate in this you mail my blocks and HER blocks to me. I will mail them all together to her in ONE envelope. She will mail ALL of the blocks to me & I will mail them out with mine to all of you. That will minimize the expense as best we can.
We have SEVERAL delightful trustworthy non-paying members that I am comfortable with including in this swap. I'm not gun-ho about ALWAYS being open to anybody. It would be VERY important for you each to give me feedback on members who were not keeping up their end of the commitment since with non-members there is no way to leave "feedback" in the DG normal manner.
basket part in blue? background in a good bleached muslin? Give me feedback before we post this as a done deal!!! Deadline Sept 30 for blocks? Realistically that means you would be waiting on Elen & I to receive your blocks and vice versa. What do you think? TALK TO ME PEEPS!!! LOL |
