My cat just captured a big moth last night and I was wondering what it was. Now, I'm pretty sure it is a tobacco hornworm (great links - thanks). I thought it must be a Sphinx moth but my books didn't help me identify it. I also didn't realize that we have the tobacco hornworm and not the tomato hornworm. I haven't found many and it's been years since I've seen one on my tomato plants. When I have seen them, they've always been infested with the braconid wasp parasite so I've left them alone. I also routinely find the pupa cases when I do my spring cultivation chores so they must be around. I'm just not sure what else they are eating.

I don't think I could bring myself to try the recipe!

I wondered if anybody had scrolled down far enough to see the recipe link... LOL I couldn't resist including it, but I don't think I could bring myself to try it, either!

I'd always called them all "tomato hornworms" too, until I did some research recently. I see a lot more pupae than hornworms, also... maybe we have some other species around that are munching trees, up out of sight?
