Well, we thought we'd put some blackberries in our backyard, and they've taken really well. Unfortunately, we didn't account for the runners that would take off equally well, across the yard, through the vegetables, into the roses... As soon as we planted them I realized we should have put them along the edge of our driveway, which is bounded by the concrete driveway and the neighbors sidewalk on the other side of the hedge. I would like to move them, but am not sure when is the best time/method for doing this. I assume I should wait until fall/winter (I live in Southern California), cut them way back and transplant them just as when they were originally planted. Any tips??
If they're the wild ones, they're pretty hard to kill. I've ripped them out of the garden mid-summer and moved them to the back fence line with no problem.
There in California, you could probably get away with it as long as you keep them well watered until they get established again.
