Pyracantha is absolutely beautiful used on a fence. With a little coaxing, you get a wonder of blooms followed by great berries. Doesn't take long to fill in if the branches are connected laterally along the fence. You can plant them as close as 3ft apart for quicker coverage or 5ft apart if you have the patience.
whodey1 - Pyracantha is generally suited for USDA hardiness Zones 6-9. If you live in Zone 6b, you might try it anyway if you are adventurous. Here is a link to your Hardiness Zone Map: http://www.growit.com/bin/USDAZoneMaps.exe?MyState=in
Find out what the Zone is for your area and go from there.
