I have a picture window in my new addition I'd like to do a roman shade for. It's apx 4x7ft. Orginaly I didn't intend to put any curtains on it as it looks out onto my butterfly garden but the evening sun blinds you as your watching tv. I've made all types of curtains and drapes in the passed but never a roman shade. Is a roman shade possible for a window of this size? I'm doing a art deco painting around another window so I hope to pull something simular to that window. Luckily, most of the art deco fabric designs I've researched are clean circles, squares, diamonds and lines so that should work well for a roman shade in the up or down position.

Since these fabric aren't cheap($8.00-$16.00 per yard),I have to messure 4-6x then cut once and get it right the first time. One fabric was $175.00...YES...one hundred seventy-five dollars a yard. Needless to say,I'll be admiring that one from afar.Since I probably need to line it to protect the fabric from the sun, that's additional cost and weight. Most of the fabrics I've seen are med.weight so I probably need to go w/ light weight for both fabric and lining.

Tell me about your experiences w/ roman shades otherwise I'm doomed to a roll up bamboo shade.
