| Carrie, what a beautiful article! You almost had me in tears, but I'm trying to avoid that right now! It's been 18 years since I took my first girl off to college, I can assure you that we all survived. |

| yes, carrie, beautiful..I was almost in tears too, but I refuse--refuse!--to start crying now. I've seen this writing on the wall since preschool.
I really enjoyed this article! |

| Thank you, Sally. Yes, resist. Try, if you can. (Although isn't that the sign of a successful mother? Kids who are able to leave you?) I didn't see the writing on the wall, not until middle school pink hair, anyway. But thank you for your comments! |

| How cool is that to be able to have a garden while a student. Sounds like the plants will be beautiful.
How gratifying it must be to know that DD feels capable and empowered enough to go off on this adventure. Will be awaiting news of the back-pack trip. What a way to begin your college years!! Maybe she will find that "perfect" cactus yet. Great article. |

| Thank you, Jan, for your positive comments. I wish I felt as positive. This is a kid who killed every houseplant I ever gave her, including a cactus (she liked it so much she remembered to water it). I finally got her a plastic plant, at home.
Sigh. In a week or two we should hear whether she made it back alive from her Orientation! I'm not at all worried, just kidding. But thanks for reading. |

| Well, I'm sure she could get plastic plants again if needed. lol There are several homes in town that do just that. Vibrant color all year long. Too bad they don't change out with the seasons though.
No matter how old they get we still want to mother. ( I justify that by saying it's in my job description) |

| Hi Carrie,
Love the title of your article. Just sent my girl off to college too.
Not a transplant this year, but soon.
Anyway, really enjoyed your article... beautiful and touching,

| Oh, ouch, did you have to pull her out by the roots? Mine seems to have left a great deal of her root tissue at home, so that we are forever stumbling over it as it attempts to regenerate? Well, the transplant has to happen eventually. (See how I'm holding on to this dumb metaphor like a security blanket?!)
Good luck and thanks for your comments! |

| Carrie, I'm feeling just a bit like I'm sending another daughter off. I found out today that the girl who's been helping me with the gardens one day a week all summer is off to a one year horsemanship/Bible camp internship. She'll receive some college credit and still get to play with the horses she loves. Yikes! I knew she would be off to something soon, but this is very sudden! lol imagine! |

| LOL, No, I guess she is just one of my Beautiful Wildflowers.
All roots intact, going to local college for now.
I hope your daughter enjoys the transplant!
Will be nice you have the security blanket when she comes home to visit.
it is nice you gave her the new security and watered with love.
Good luck to you as well, thanks!

| What a lovely article you wrote, and full of love. Thanks!
How intrepid of your daughter to take off across the continent to a whole different part of the United States! You've raised her right. Your words brought me right back to the day we took our oldest daughter up to her university. Then two years later, our second daughter went off. It doesn't really get easier but the sense of joy and anticipation of the younger generation is catching.
And in a few minutes I will meet the bus which will bring my grand-daughter home from her first day of kindergarten. Life goes on. |

Hi, Carrie, Looks like you touched many hearts with your article, including mine! Your coming of age story (as a mom) is so sweet and dear to many us.
And we have a lot in common, too. I've just made a garden of some iris and perennials around my daughter's college rental. (I hope they bloom before she graduates!)
Love your story, t. |

Cuz we're gardeners--and the rentals yards can be so pitiful, and we can't stand to see unloved ground LOL |
