Hi Folks,

I have a Windmill Palm that I had ordered from Georgia and planted outside in June 08. It is doing well, healthy looking, and I have followed all 'golden Rules" to giving this Palm the best of chances. The only issue is that it doesn't appear to be growing at all. It's tallest point is about hip high, and the trunk is about 8 inches. At what point can I expect noticeable growth ?

Will the growth be more fronds, or will the palm mainly develop height or both at first ?

Thanks for your help!

patience! Palms don't grow that fast (at least, most don't). You will be lucky if you ever notice it's growing! It will produce more fronds (for me, that palm that size maybe makes 3-5 a year) and eventually you will notice (only if you measure the trunk from dirt to tip) that after a year it's an 1" or two taller... eventually it will pick up speed and if you are lucky you might even get 3"-6" growth a year (but that is years down the road). Mine is as tall as my chest and it's grown maybe 8" in two years (and that's overall leaf height... trunk height has not increased visibly yet). You need to grow a different tree or species of palm if you want faster growth than that.

Thanks Bob. Yea, I have the patience and time. I just don't really know what to expect. This is my first go of it, and I want to be sure I am doing all things correctly!
Thx !
