Ok, I admit that I started growing them by acident. My first one was white and the fowere shop sold it to me as a moonflower vine. Needless to say, it wasn't, but I loved it any way. It now grows all over my yard and even though it drives me nuts pulling them, I still love it.
Anyway, last year someone gave me some seeds for lavender (holy cow, it's like an invader from Mars!) a single yellow, a double yellow and a beautiful purple and white yellow. Needless to say, there is no problem getting seeds from the lavender or single yellow, but my doubles aren't making pods. SOmetimes, I know it's because the flowers are so heavy that they snap off, but even if they don't, there is still a problem. I have only one pod from my purple and I am guarding that with my life.
Is it because the flowers on the doubles are so fluffy and tight that the bees can't get in them? I tried turning a couple inside out, but that didn't work either. Is there a way to hand polinate and can I use pollen from the same plant?
Also, are the other colors as hardy as the white? I couldn't kill that thing if I tried. I self seeds and also comes up from the roots year after year and I'm in zone 4!
Hope someone can help. Thanks
