Good Evening Everyone,

This is my first year building a compost pile. I'm using a Miracle Grow container.

While turning over my pile I have noticed something that I will call a grub for lack of really knowing.

I have been picking them out of the pile because don't know what they will grow to become.

Pictures are included, all advice is welcome.

Thanks,

Planter

Does look like a beetles grub. Japanese Beetles are supposed to eat grass roots though. I think there might be other beetles grubs eating oyur compost, which is fine and part of the process

I find thingies like that but they are maggots... Disgusting but they eat up the stuff and are part of the system. If I could figure a way to kill just the maggots, I would... fewer flies ultimately.

OH, would that be wonderful. They could go in one end and come out the other as fertilizer!!! As long as we have our dog chickens are out of the question... Labs and chickens don't cohabitate very easily and if they lived in a pen the dog would go nuts!!! No, another time when Thelma is gone we will have chickens and ducks... Good idea!
