Have owned a Larger Eagle wood stove since 1980. The stove was originally produced in Rochester, NH under the name of Eagle. Some years later, the company was sold to the Greenwood Corp. out of the Nashua, NH area. Greenwood went into bankruptcy and the original manufacturer got it back, but hard times forced the company to eventually close. It uses 1" thick refractory plates as liners on the sides, top and back of the firebox of the wood stove. When burning correctly, a hot fire warms the plates which allow green wood to be cooked and dried during a burn cycle. Years ago, a pool company 'Custom Pools' with a store in Newington, NH use to carry replacement refractory plates. I've contacted them, but over the years their people have moved on and they no longer produce the plates.
From non-use, the plates in my stove disintegrated about two years ago. We would like to put the stove back into use as a back up to our other heating system, but we need a set of the (4) replacement refractory plates to make the wood stove operate correctly. If anyone has any ideas as to where we might find a set of these plates, or something that would work as well, could you please reply?
Go to Google or your yellow pages for commercial boiler maintenance. The search words "boiler maintenance" + refractory should get your desired results. One inch pieces can be purchased in several stock sizes. It can be cut with a water applied diamond saw which can be rented at most rental centers. You may or may not need a high temperature mud to stick them together. If your pieces sit or slide into a one inch channel no mud is likely needed. Be forewarned this refactory is not inexpensive and you may wish to pay someone to reline your stove. If you are real lucky the manufacturer used standard size refractory.
My husband makes the refactory bricks for the Greenwood Eagle. When the company went out of business there was an auction. He bought some of the replacement parts way back then and at that time decided to make forms to make the bricks (He owned a metal Fab shop) He makes them in our barn and advertises in Uncle Henry's in Maine. You can access Uncle Henry's online I believe It has our phone number there.
i too am looking for refractory plates. i need someone to get back to me as to where to get them. i tried uncle henry's by phone with no luck. Luannet, from Canton, ME. please get back to me. i know of two more greenwood eagles in my area and they probably need plates also.
i have now found & replaced the plates for my large eagle wood stove. the guy i got them from bought the original molds and still makes plates to sell. if you need plates, get back to me for his number.
