Yank them out when you see new ones growing. You've probably got the ones that self seed, in which case, they'll always be sprouting as long as you have them and allow them to bloom.

Just keep pulling them up and eventually you'll get them all.

IF you have the ones that spread by runners, they'll continue to plague you until you rip them out completely and are dilligent about removing the new shoots when you first notice them.

They can be a real nightmare.

I moved into a house last year with a big English Ivy patch under a pine tree. I don't like ivy because it's so invasive here, but I'm waiting to rip it out because I have so many other projects to do first. Morning Glory was all intertwined in the ivy, and it's 8 inches deep in rocks, so pulling was not an option. i got a bunch of ziplock baggies, and put a couple teaspoons of full strength concentrated brush killer in each. Then I took the growing tip of a vine and coiled it in the bag, zipping it as closed as possible. Every day or two i cut off the now dying tip and put it in the trash, and stuck another vine tip in the same bag. I could use the same poison many times without it getting all over the ivy or the tree. this spring I only have a few morning glories that I missed, so I better get on the ball...

How do you tell if the type you have are growing from seeds or from roots?

I think they all are annuals, so all are from seed every spring. (Morning glories, or bindweed.)
