Great photos Grow_Jo and Joannabanana.
Grow_Jo - I to am interested in whether you keep your orchids under lights all year round. It is one of the things that I always kill ! (There is quite a few actually LOL !)
Thanks guys. I haven't been growing orchids for very long, just a year and a half, so I'm very much a beginner. But oh, the addiction...LOL. I've managed to collect about 55 so far, and there's no end in sight. The blooms you see were plants I purchased in bloom recently; can't claim to have grown them myself. The object will be to get them to rebloom of course...
I just recently started growing them under lights, so we'll see how they do, and yes many of them will be year 'round under lights. I initially started with two shelves in front of a south window. As my collection has expanded, I needed more space and since there wasn't any more available in front of the window, I've added lights. Or I should say my DH added them for me...
Hokey doodle .. have kinda been offline a bit. The EDMONTON & CALGARY pics are wonderful!!!
We got hit with a frost here last night .. I won't be able to tell how badly the gardens were affected until I get out for a look around .. but .. truth be told .. I am thinking that things will be 'bleak' when the boys arrive .. BUT .. I do have a few TRICKS up my sleeves :-)

Sheesh - yous guys didn't put a link in the previous thread over to hear and I just found you. I was watching the other one, but have been busy enough that I've not been to DG with enough time to just brouse.
Now I've got to go back and catch up on what the lads have been up to.
joannabanana - great gardens. It's easy to see that the boys were happy visiting there. And they also enjoyed Grow_Jo's gardens and orchids. fancyvan - who's the friend that joined them at your house? So glad all your furry friends got to meet them too. And I enjoyed the pics of your garden and some sight seeing.
Sandy - we'll be thinking of winter activities by the time the lads visit us, I think. Skating on the canal, snowshoeing, etc.
I look forward to seeing the northern Calgary garden.
Ann not sure what friend you mean ? They didnt meet anybody that I can recall - just the furry ones. Oh maybe you mean Happy? He was added in Vancouver I think.
They are sitting on the front doorstep waiting for Susan to pick them up.

It's our 10/10/10 year - Tenth month / tenth day / tenth anniversary, and we've been getting ready & I'm a little nervous about getting everything perfect for Friday night.
Am pondering the arrival date .. since it's a holiday weekend comin up .. I may not see the fellas til after Oct. 13 .. jeez .. they're gonna miss Thanskgiving turkey dinner !!!
I'll save them some fresh pumpkin pie (or maybe just the Cool Whip) :-)
hahahaha too funny - register them for the polls...
They're such an ancient race, they were around Before elections lol
I'm trying to picture a wood nymph electing a tree as Prime Minister LOL
I've been trying to track them with the tracking # I have, and it doesn't look like they've moved, but the website probably doesn't get updated too often. I selected to receive an email upon delivery. I'll keep checking to see where they are, on their journey to Ontario.
Well, as of 1pm this afternoon, the boys were in Winnipeg @ the Post Office...
who knows - maybe they Will arrive tomorrow, at Marilynne's!!!
After all, if they catch an afternoon or early evening flight out of Winnipeg...then to Toronto, eh? Well, we'll see :-)
Well Tallulah .. we're on the look out for the boys :-) Since I am a 'forest dweller' the package will have to go from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay .. be sorted and come back out my way .. in essence .. they be goin east, then coming back west .. poor guys !!
Would love to have them sitting at the table for our Thanksgiving dinner :-)
Just an update .. as if you hadn't already guessed .. the boys didn't make it to my house for Thanksgiving .. so .. I am hoping that tomorrow I will receive notification that the package has arrived, and I'll bop up to the post office to collect it :-)
Hopefully tomorrow, but, since Wednesday is my 'CRAZY BUSY DAY' .. if the 'come get me card' arrives .. I may not be able to fetch'em til Thursday .. but fetch'em I shall :-)
May have to stoke up the woodstove to thaw them out !!!
siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh - still though, it can be annoying when they give a delivery date of the 15th, and the track # still shows it's in Winnipeg!!! I just checked, and they haven't updated it since the 9th...
O boys... kick open the box & WALK to Marilynne's - it would be faster LOL
LoL .. well Tallulah .. had they walked they have had to have snowshoed across Sask !!
Just home here .. have been on the go since 9am .. and .. THE POSTAL PICK UP card is HERE .. :-)
Will cruise on down to the post office in the morning .. sooooooooo .. if all goes well .. I should be able to post a couple of pics tomorrow :-)
