The clock struck one
and down he run
to drink his cup of chicory.
I have no earthly idea why I wrote that except to smile and to send you a smile to say I enjoyed your article.
Thanks for the interesting and informative article. (again)
We've enjoyed many a cup of chicory. However, my DH drank too many cups. It temp. turned his teeth brown like light colored wood, even w/ daily brushing. It went away after he reduced the cups to a normal person's limit. LOL
I grew up in Louisiana during WW2 and folks drank Chicory because that was about all that was available and boy did they ever gripe about it and once the war ended they wouldn't drink it any longer ..Now I suspect this was because they were forced to drink it ..As for me I like the taste and until fairly recently you could find coffee/chicory blends in any store in Cajun land but during my last 2 visits I didn't see any of that around..
Hi Grits,
I suspect you are right about being forced to drink it, but I think it is becoming a fad now because it is caffeine-free. I am still looking for it here, and did find Community Coffee, which is a blend of coffee and chicory, so I am making do with that.
Hope your weather is nice!

In Louisiana there were dozens of small coffee roasters and every store had quite a selection and nowadays just don't see the old long standing brands ie: Morning Bell, Eight O"Clock, T henry's(a very good chicory blend ,and the ever present Community which I believe is roasted and packaged in Tn.
