Hi,

These days cohosh is used to treat menopausal symptoms (hot flashes etc). So the same estrogen like substance used for birth control is also used to replace estrogen during menopaus.

Please note, that the link is to a website that mentions BLACK cohosh - not the blue cohosh under discussion - an entirely different plant. Sometimes such confusions can have bad results :)
