I live in the deep south of New Zealand. Camelias love this climate. But unfortunately they bruise and drop very quickly. However I have found the peonie seems to put on a reasonable display and lasts much longer. They are a very big part of everyone!s garden in our corner of the world. So even with that dilema they hold thier heads high.

I know a lot of camellias we have originated in New Zealand. I didn't know about the brusing and dropping. Of course they all drop the blossoms to the ground eventually and have to be cleaned up to prevent disease.

They really are a magical plant here in the American South.

Actually peonies do not do that well in the American South. They seem to need colder winters than we have. Perhaps I didn't plant the right one's.
