What a coincidence! My husband and I were just talking about the lovely wild chicory flowers still blooming along the dry roadsides here in Madison, Wisconsin and were wondering why we never see the plant offered for sale as a xeriscape or rock garden plant. We have friends that once lived in New Orleans who add chicory to their coffee--they buy it down south when they go back to visit. After reading this article, I think I need to get some, too! I am sensitive to caffeine and must drink half-caff or really watch my intake of regular coffee. . . Now to get the nurseries to carry that lovely blue flower!
I think the word is not out yet that there is no caffeine in chicory, when it is realized then perhaps if enough of the public asks for it, nurseries will carry it. I think it is a beautiful little plant.
Nice to hear from you, and good luck finding a source that you can maybe borrow from...
When you do find it, be sure to clean the root very well before drying it, because it is too hard to try to clean it after it has dried.
Thanks for writing.
