Thanks LariAnn for your fascinating articles on these oddities of the plant world. I wonder if the amorphophallus titanum was the inspiration for the old (50's or 40's?) sci-fi movie "Day of the Triffids" about plants that eat humans? Definitely looks triffid-like, according to my memory, except for the phallus.
