what is this? And what can I do with it?

So, I bought this at a flea market, a very nice old glass canning jar, with all these little numbered 'wooden' pieces inside. It was $1.00, it was interesting and I thought I could do something with the little 'pegs'

They are numbered 1 - 90.

Is it some old game? Does anyone have any clue what these are and what I can do with them?

Any ideas would be great!

Maybe you should check with a collector to learn the value of it before you do anything. Game collectors might pay a lot for a complete set of original numbers.

I called a friend of mine he is into this kind of stuff he seams to think the little numbers could be worth as much as three thousand dollars depending on how old and who the maker was so please do look into this before doing anything with them

I was just visitng the site and saw the response - Oy! Who knew my $1 find could be gold... Problem is I like 'em and want to keep em.

lol.. dying to find out what game they were from.. Maybe if you have someone take a look at them you can get a better history about them..

Great thing you posted here on TTT.. lol.. you might have made wooden windchimes out of them or something.. lol..

Would also like to hear more about the old glass canning jar.. I wonder if the items have been together for many years..

I don't think the jar is that old, but then again - I didn't think the game pieces were anything special (and who knows they may not be, but they look old to me)

I will have to keep my eye out for an antique show, or shoot maybe I could just go to an antique dealer?. Hmm there are enough of those around here.

thansk for the replies and I will definitely be back to share when I find out.

Don't sell them. You LIKE them, so build a lightweight tray and cover it with the discs. Use it when you entertain. You could also cover a small table with them and cover with glass.

In art school I once did this assamblage with slices of bamboo and large and small wooden beads. This was the 70's so you could get those bead curtains! hahaha You could do a shadow box like was suggested before and possibly mix the discs with another round object to make a design.

blackThumbz,

I would take some pictures of these wooden piecies.
Get their size, width, diamiter of piece, see if you can get the wood named, and as suggested above, get in touch with an Antique Web Site with as much info on the piece as you can and a close-up picture of one of the pieces.

Send it to them and I think, they would bend over backwards to help you name the game as they would also be interested in knowing what it is.

I am interested very much, myself. try not to get anymore marks of them and keep them out of the air, so to speak. Please. let us know how you go, it is fasinating when we have challenges like this.

A mate,
Debi (Degarotty)
