| This is the first real attempt at Stained Glass work by me, and it gave me a good idea of what kind of work a bigger project will take . This is 16"x20". I kept seeing all the beautiful windows everyone was creating and took a beginner SG class. I know that I will continue to make more items in this medium.. it is truly gratifying for me. You all are an inspiration! Click the image for an enlarged view.

| James, Thank you, You will love working with glass... if you can, take a class, boy it sure is a lot easier than trying to figure it on your own.. or ask here too...

| In addition to your gorgeous choice of colors, I love the way you used different textures. To me, that's one of the MOST fun things about glass.
Is this in a room with your Saltillo tile? |

| Right now it is in the living room which does have Saltillo ceramic tile, we didn't go with the real thick Saltillo.
Thank you for commenting on this window.. I've been drawing some things to see what will be next. |

| Well, the two flowers were in a picture that had a long vine with several flowers, I copied only two flowers that I liked from there, the rest I added. I sometimes copy a little from here and there to get a final product if I really like part of it... then on this one the leaves and stems were added, then the border and all the clear was added. So it is completely different. I had help deciding where to break up the lines for the solder for support where the clear glass is. The instructor has really helped me in the how to's with the patina and how to clean up the solder.
There's nothing like taking a class, boy, what a difference it can make. Mostly learning the right tools and how to use them is what makes everything fall into place (litterally).

| Sounds like you have a great instructor! Mine closed up shop shortly after I took my classes, so I was on my own for the two windows I did. Fortunately she had taught me the basics well.
I LOVE to solder----I did a bunch of copper-foil beveled candleholder cubes for gifts and did decorative soldering techniques on all the seams. I really enjoyed it. For one summer I soldered parts for a living, and my boss said I was pretty good at it! There's just nothing like positive reinforcement, is there? |

| I am enjoying this class. There are two instructors and I plan to register for the next class that starts next month.. I wish I soldered better than I do.. too bad we are not neighbors. We would never be done, can you imagine both brains going at one time?? |

| Okay guys, don't laugh, this guy I drew from three photos of roosters, I had to make myself a pattern and this is how he came out.. he looks like he's got duck feet, and look at his eye, he looks like he did something wrong. This is a 16" x 20" panel that I hope to finish by the 19th, it is a gift for my daughter on her 31st birthday. I sure hope she likes it. If the instructor can help me some, maybe I can change his beak and feet some in class next week.
What do you guys think?

| It's ART!!
Chicken feet are nasty anyway. And they'd be hard to cut out of glass, too!
Maybe for the eye you could use a little glass paint?
For that matter, you could paint a little of the "soil" color on the duck-feet to differentiate the chicken-toes...if you really want to.

| You will not believe what one of the other students asked... He said "that is a pretty Iris", I couldn't stop laughing, and told him "it's a rooster" and kept on laughing... boy he had me in chuckles... I suddenly remembered my children showing me pictures they drew and I said things way off the wall also, they would look at me and say "MOM", It's such and such..
Pay backs... boy, do I deserve them. |

| Well, I'm sorry, but I could never mistake your rooster for an iris, no matter HOW much wine I'd had! I have a glass in hand now, and I tried to see an iris and there was just no way!! |

| Gourd, your panels look great! I just wanted to comment on the rooster. I don't know if you have time to order and incorporate it into the panel, but you might think about using a taxidermist eye for a more realistic eye. Good luck with foiling and finishing. Can't wait to see the finished product!! |

| Thanks guys,
Brender, I'm really trying to cut slower, I did break two peices (feathers) and decided to leave them that way. I actually broke them while going to the grinder to smooth them out. Its getting easier for me to work with glass and I'm really learning quite a bit.
Thank you chinatreasures, for the idea, I never would have thought of that.. I'll check into that and see what I come up with. Mr. Iris made an eye for his bird out of a stone, he is in a lapidary class. My class is tomorrow and I am hoping for some help in a final fitting and to start foiling. |

| Gourd, I really think you are doing a great job with your cutting. I've taken a few classes and seen some of the new students' work. You really are doing excellent. But then again, you are very talented in all your work you've shared with us :-D |
