I was wondering if any Needle Felters have joined the forum. I have been felting for over a year and really enjoy it. I am making pumpkins just now . Usually I make birds. Many of the felters I know make bears, dogs and even horses.
Sandy, I am sending you a picture of my Canadian Goose. If you want to see my other critters, you can check my website http://www.JBsBirdsandMore.com and click on needlefelting...all the pictures will come up. If you want to learn how to needlefelt, I can send you some links that will show you where to get starter kits, etc. It is fun. You do not use yarn. You use plain wool and it is punched with needles until it forms what you want to make. You will love it. A good way to get rid of your frustrations. LOL You just keep poking the wool. Just kidding.
Hi JBerger, I looked at your pictures. I would be interested in your links for the needlefelting kits. Thanks so much. I have been looking for something new to do. Your birds are Beautiful!
I was just going out to the greenhouse and put in the heaters when I decided to check the groups. I saw your reply and thought I would answer it immediately. I love talking about felting. LOL Before you buy any kits check out the different links. I got my first one from http://www. mielkesfarm.com , it came with the foam working surface and all. Some have discontinued sending the foam work surface. Try and get one with that.
Then I bought a beginner bunny kit from http://www.livingfelt.com called Bunny Love. That was fun and a challange. My bunny turned out lookiing like a pooh bear...
Look into these too: http://www.BeyondBasicBears.com (Creative Design Studio) you can get the instructions right off the internet and buy the wool from them also.
Black Sheep Designs area my favorite - http://www.blacksheepdesigns.com...they are in NY and so helpful. Their wool is good and their kits are wonderful and easy to follow directions. I hope this helps. If you want to email me privately you certainly can at JBerger431@aol.com. Just be sure you put needlefelting in the subject or I may just overlook it. I sometimes do not check the Dave site for days and I may just miss a post from you if I get busy. I will help you all I can. Believe me I am not yet an accomplished fiber artist and I am learning too, so we can learn together. Jacquie
I forgot to mention, Look up http://www.woolery.com and see all the things they have in their store. They have lots of supplies and will send you a catalog if you want it. Later. Keep in touch please.
I googled needlefelting. It's not what I thought it was. I thought it was crocheted and then shrunk. I believe they call that wet felting. Thanks for all your info. Sorry to have bothered you. I did check one of your links and found the woolery site accidental. Thanks again!
I just learned how to needle felt over the holidays. I made an owl ornament from a kit, and then I got some roving and made a sheep and a rabbit. I really had fun with it. We raise Icelandic sheep, llamas, and angora goats, so I want to do it with my own fiber in the spring.
It's a fun craft to do, and it was quick to learn. I'm taking a class in wet felting in March. I really want to try nuno felting.
Hi Claire, I am so late in checking my dmail I owe you an apology for not responding sooner. I adore your sheep and your rabbit. They are so adorable. I have been doing so many other things this winter that my needlefelting is taking a back seat and I must get to it again soon. I spend too much time on the computer and not enough productive time. LOL. I have a neighbor who raises sheep. Take a look at her link if you have time. It is http:www.applerose.com. She raises cormo sheep as well as others and I get alot of my wool from her. You may enjoy seeing her stock. Keep me posted and I promise not to be so late in replying. This weather has been crazy and I am just trying to keep my greenhouse alive and well. LOL Have a great day . Happy felting. JB
No worries - I didn't respond until 3 months after your posting, but when you posted, I wasn't needle felting at the time! Haha! Glad you liked my critters. I have since made a few more but right now I'm learning to spin too, so that has been taking more of my time. I am also experimenting with different fibers and seeing what I like best for needle felting, and what gives the most clean finish.
I loved looking at the Apple Rose website - I wasn't familiar with the Cormo breed but would love to try some of that wool for felting. I'll keep that on my list. There is so much to learn about the different types of fleece. I read an article just last week that said Dorset is one of the best for needle felting if you want to avoid lots of wispy fiber bits hanging off the project. I tried llama recently and that was fun too!
I'll post some pictures in future of my projects as I keep going with it!
Claire
Hi Claire, I was so excited to see your reply. It is snowing today so I am inside trying not to think about the outside. I am NOT a snowbird. LOL
I have a friend who spins and sells spinning stuff. She does everything, except felting.
Take a look at her website. http://fibers.downinthecountry.com She even spins her dogs hair. She is a really neat crazy lady so feel free to leave her an email if you have any questions. Tell her JB sent you if you do. We have been friends for many years. They bred exotic birds when I did and we had an online class teaching others how to hand feed, train, take care of baby birds, etc. We called it Dont Ever Panic. We had a blast, but many of us retired from breeding and now we just chat about the world today.
I can't wait to see your new critters. I want to needlefelt today if I get my paperwork done in time. My arm feels like it could stand some action. Take care, stay warm. JB
