I think I have seen this posted before, but I can't find it again. It is growing in several places in my yard, but mostly under or near my spruce tree or evergreen needle-leafed shrubs. The leaves are medium green speckled with pink. I have never seen a flower. Thanks for help.

I suspect that could be American poke weed or speckled poke weed?

Guess it could be a specked poke weed from spider mite infestation.

Well, I really don't think it is like any poke weed that grows around here that I've seen. It only gets to 8 inches tall at the most, and I have never seen any flower or berries on it at all. The predominant feature is the speckled pink to pale pink on the leaves. The leaves in the upper right corner of the first photo are lamium so that can give you a reference to the size. Here is another photo. I don't know what buggy is munching on them - they are under trees and bushes, not in my garden beds.

I agree that it looks like an unhealthy pokeweed.

I'm putting in another vote for sick pokeweed--maybe sick and stunted by the location.

Well, sounds like it's a consensus. But I am surprised - that would not have been my guess. And... That's why I asked. Thanks to all of you for your help.

I think Kalpavriksha was right about the spider mites. You might want to check and see if that's the case--spider mites aren't terribly fussy about what plants they'll infest and they spread very easily to anything nearby an infested plant, so if you've got anything desirable in that area I'd check and make sure it doesn't have them too.
