Now I'm not a pattern writer, but I did make notes to myself as I went along. To me this looks like about a 3-6 month size.
I used Red Heart Super Saver, 4 ply I think (it was a big ball in my stash - no label).
If anyone else wants to try it out, basically:
for the shorts, chain 60 and join without twisting, to make a circle.
ch 3 and dc around, join in top of ch 3. (ch 3 counts as a stitch)
I did this for 8 rows, then for row 9, which is the first leg, I only dc for 29 sts, then joined in the top of the ch 3.
I continued with that for 2 more rows, then for row 12, (3rd row of leg), did a sc around and fastened off.
I repeated the same for the 2nd leg, joining the yarn in the next vacant st after the first leg started on row 9.
That's the shorts part.
Now the suspenders, all I did was chain 75, dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each chain after that and fastened off.
Repeat for 2nd strap.
Front suspender crosspiece:
I chained 15, dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch after that, ch 2, turn
next row - this creates the "arch" - sc, sc, sc, hdc, hdc, dc, dc, dc, dc, dc, hdc, hdc, sc, sc, sc, chain 2, turn
3rd row - sc across and fasten off.
I attached the cross piece at the 16th through 19th dc on 1 side of each suspender strap with whip stitches.
Then I made a crocheted a little flower in multicolored thread - aunt lydia's size 20 I think it was, and attached it to the middle of the crosspiece.
I had some heart buttons left over from another project so I used those for the front and plain blue buttons for the back.
I sewed the buttons on after I located the center stitch on the top row of the shorts and counted over 6 dc from each side of the center for the front, and then for the back, I counted over 4 stitches from the center.
A nice surprise is that I realized the suspenders are adjustable.
I didn't take a picture of it, but the straps are crossed over in the back.
I made these for a baby boy, but for a girl I guess you could add a row of shell stitches around the legs and the suspenders, or maybe a row of ch 3, sk 2, sc in next st.
This is really basic, but I'm sure anyone else who tries this will come up with their own way to be creative with it - as crocheters naturally do!
Oh, I almost forgot - for the "gap" that happens after the legs are done, I did a few whip stitches with a spare piece of yarn to close that up.
