| Good point Jill about small spaces for fruit trees. I'm been researching and there are many hardy dwarf fruit trees. I am choosing a dwarfing apple that will cross-pollinate with my neighbours crab apple tree. I prune my nanking cherry to keep it in a smaller space and still get loads of fruit. For those of us in colder zones (says mitten-clad dahlianut) I recommend buying from a local nursery that has their fruit trees outside or choose a variety that you've seen in someone elses garden/orchard. I'm going for an apricot. It will be very rare if I get fruit because our last frost is too late but oh the beauty of the blossoms!!! |

| I got a few fruits on my apricot this year, and the flavor was spectacular. My "aprium" (apricot-plum cross) hasn't fruited yet but is supposed to be even sweeter. I've also got a pluot (plum-apricot opposite cross) and a Japanese plum that bore heavily this year. :-) |

| mmmmm plums. Darn Aprium is just outside my zonal pushing envelop. I'm on a city lot with alot of shade so I have to be very selective and creative with my fruit tree selection. |

| I have 20 something apple trees and keep them pruned to where I can reach them, This keeps them healthy and they do provide me with their beautiful flowers, fruit and fall colour.

| What a lovely photo!
That's a good point about pruning to keep size in check. I tend to be overly timid (or neglectful) about pruning, and I can't afford to be since I spaced my little trees pretty tightly.
I hope you had a great harvest this year! |
