I remember that cake. MY great grandmother form Hawkinsville Georgia made that one when I was a kid for Thanksgiving. I was not allowed in the kitchen when she was cooking, and if I took a peek I was quickly wrapped on the hand with my 85 year old granmothers wooden spoon.
I always wondered what that cake was called. She died a few short years later and I never got to ask her. I remember the sweet sticky apply flavored cake that had like 8-10 layers sitting on that plate like a stack of pancakes.
Thank you for sharing this article and revamping my childhood memory. I think I will bake one this fall!
And isn't that a great memory! I made myself hungry just writing the article. My family baked them for Christmas, Thanksgiving and for weddings, and I think I loved them so much because we had to wait so long for them.
I think I will join you in baking one soon. This is a good time to get the apples, too.
Thank you so much for writing.
