Huzzah to you my dear co-fanatic!!! Up here in the far northern reaches of Wisconsin, growing our own food is a challenge but very possible. My call to service here at my little garden center is to help folks remember just how it's done!!! love and peace...lynnann

Darius, this is great. I will print this article and save it. Thank you so much. I am still a 'novice' at vegetable gardening, but I did grow leeks this summer. I bought some young seedlings in a nursery so I am clueless as to what they were. They did grow, in spite of all of my mistakes. I actually harvested them (way too early after reading your article) and made lots of leek and potato soup.
NOW, I see what I should be doing. You make it sound so clear. I loved the photographs. They really are so helpful and illustrate perfectly what you are writing. Thanks again...One of the Dames of Fenwick Farm

Thank you both! I am always delighted to see more folks trying (with success) to grow more edibles. I cannot imagine not having leeks in my garden, nor garlic. If Hard Times continue to descend upon us, at least my beans will have some flavor. :)
