What a gorgeous little guy! He's a scarlet kingsnake, yes? I know coral snakes have similar colors and don't have the "pit viper head," but there's a teaching rhyme I learned once about the pattern of the colors:

Red on yellow will kill a fellow.

Red on black is friend of Jack.
