My neighbor calls this a century plant. Isn't it an agave?

I read your article about agaves last fall, but I am having a hard time matching this to the plant files.

PS Your advice about how to plant my Bismark Palms has worked out well. My husband would have planted them 6 feet apart! They have been in for several months and are growing nicely.
Thanks again!

could be a Furcraea foetida... or perhaps even a Lily variety, but not an Agave
