| Wow -- all the basics, in one place! Thanks for a wonderful article, Marna. I can see there are a couple more feeders we will have to add this year... :-)
If anybody is interested in a "suet" cake recipe, I included my favorite in this article about making a peanut butter feeder from a post-Christmas tree. http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/467/ |

| You are welcome all. Thanks to all from the Birdwatching Forum who are always glad to offer up tips and tricks. The Sticky that I link to has great suet recipes, places to buy mealworms… oops, getting ahead of myself. Seed/Food is the NEXT article! Tee Hee. |

| LOL... I should have known you'd have all that covered! I just thought of the PB feeder because it's time to get loaded up and hung out again... |

| Yes it is! Boy I've had a terrible time with House Sparrows this fall eat all of my suet and seed. Thus my log feeder and peanut feeder are going a bit more empty than before! If I put out good peanut butter suet or mix they would go crazy!!

| sigh I hear you Mrs_Ed re sparrows. The Wild Bird Store a couple of blocks from me feeds them so we have many in the neighbourhood. I only put corn and sunflower seeds in the open feeders now because they are so prolific. Their beaks aren't small enough for my finch feeder and they aren't interested in the nectar feeder. |

| We get a few house sparrows, but the big problem I have trying to feed suet & PB are the grackles... An entire flock will show up, fight with each other (leaving feathers and blood, I kid you not) and strip the feeder in minutes. Sometimes it takes them a few days to find it, though, so last winter I ended up filling these feeders intermittently, maybe once a week. It looks like some squirrels have found us this fall, also... keeping the feeders full may have just become more challenging! :-) |

| Critter that happens to me in the fall with brewers blackbirds. I swear there were a hundred of them this year. Very Hitchcockian. |

| You did an awesome article, Marna! Lots of great info and some very interesting links at the end of the article! A great reference! Your article(s) would be a good link for the sticky thread on the Bird Watching Forum! :-)
The birds that flock to my feeder are the White Winged Doves. They line up on the power line and swoop in! It's comical to see how many doves can fit in a hanging platform feeder! I video taped them one morning and couldn't believe how many come to the platform feeder. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9teqGdw8z4&feature=channel |

| Ha. Thanks Becky! That's funny!
That reminds me that I like to watch how many birds can perch on the squirrel proof feeder before it closes from the weight!

| I never thought of that! I'll have to watch my hopper feeder to see how many birdies are lined up on the perch! LOL! Never even thought of that! Too funny! :-D |

| Yes, on this small one I have, when a really bigger sparrow plops down with the two others, it closes. Most of the time it stays open though. |

| ROTFL! No doubt! I thought it was funny seeing doves standing on top of each other! It's crazy at the feeder in the mornings!
So ... you get the right feeder and serve yummy seeds to feed them and you will have lots and lots of birdies! :-) |
