This was my first year growing datura and it was a nice experience. I never realized that they smelled so sweet, almost like a four o clock.

Hornworms love tomatoes too!
My season is gone now, I harvested all of my seeds for the next season, so I guess i will not be seeing any worms for a while, lol!

I really did not get any though, I guess because I sprayed those babies weekly with a triple fungicide and insectide, remember also that my weather in NY is different than yours and not as humid!

This is my datura plant. I bought it from someone on ebay and it is in constant bloom. I really hope I can overwinter it indoors.

ridgebax1,
Here is to try this year---from my own experience of overwinter Daturas in the fridge, or similar cool place.

fburg,

Your Datura looks just like mine. I just call it double/tripple Purple/White Datura metel.

I collect seeds every year--and they always come true to the parent plant.

I only grow 2 Daturas--both in the same bed. The Purple/white one and a double yellow. Never had an issue of cross-pollination. The yellow one is a smaller seedling and seems a bit more "aggressive" than the Purple one.

Buttoneer,

I have plenty of seeds from the purple one. Had them at the Swap in Frederick--Did you not take any?
If you are coming to Bec's Plant Swap--let me know, and i will bring some for you. OR--I can mail them to you...

This pic is from 2007. Seems it went from double to triple petals in the blooms since I have been growing this...
Now it looks almost like "Black Currant'...
