I'm looking for a little guidance and hope someone here can help me.
I've decided to make my own dust ruffle for a full size bed to match a quilt that was given as a gift from my mother in law. I have Nicky Epstein's book on Edgings and have chosen what I want for the edge but I'm having trouble deciding how to make the main piece. I'll crochet all the sides and sew it onto fabric that will go between the mattress and box springs.
Dimensions will be: 74"L x 52.5"W x 23"D
This is for a tall, antique brass bed.
The edging is a bit elaborate so I'm thinking the main side pieces should be understated, probably ribbed. I'm thinking of 2 long sides and 1 short with slightly overlapping corners.
Has anyone ever attempted something like this? This will not be filet...I'm planning to use a worsted weight yarn with a small needle...probably an "F" or "G" for a neater stitch.
I've made a gazillion afghans, bedspreads, socks, sweaters, pillows, wraps, etc. You would think this would be easy to figure out...it's pretty basic. But I'm stumped!
Any suggestions for starting a project like this? I'd also like to do some curtains eventually.
Wouldn't you want to do this in a cotton yarn. Such as DMC Cebelia or Oprah. look at http://www.herrschners.com. for other crochet cotton yarns. Lydia is a bit less expensive.
I think worsted weight is too thick and bulky for bedding. Filet would be the niece. you could also think of making it in horizontal stripes. Or Granny with one square filet and one square with the rose in center. Helene
