Here in our country, New Zealand, sweet potatoes are known as Kumara. This root crop is grown extensively, with a number of different cultivars available, in a range of colours also. They may be the normal red Kumara, but also Golden Kumara are offered. Excellent baked, fried, steamed or made into chips. Definitely a warm climate plant, but we are very lucky here to have a range of climate ranges from subtropical to very very cold, and we can enjoy Kumara year round from our warmer parts.
