The new palms we put in over the summer are thriving. This past weekend, I cleaned out around the palms (weeds grow too fast!) and put a circle of the black plastic edging around each (about 2' away from the palms). Now I'm trying to decide what to put on top of the sand around the palms. Should I go with mulch, decorative stone, or what? I'll take some pics tonight of the area that needs to be covered.
Also, if I use mulch around the trees, I've heard that I should keep it away from the base of the palm (or any other plant). Why is that?
