I have a JM that certainly must have been grafted. The grafted growth (narrow - lacy leaf) has either died or given up for the winter, while a new, very healthy looking growth with beautiful color is growing up off of a very long stalk. I would just as soon get rid of the grafted part as it looks sort of silly with two different sets of leaves growing on one tree. Any problem with doing that? And I am wondering about what happens if I cut back the top of the healthy growth. I figure it won't stand up to winter snow and it looks too leggy at the top.
Will cutting it back stop all upward growth?

Any thoughts on my above questions or comments?

Thanks,

Sue
