I've done Santa Mitts both crocheted and knitted. Not sure where they are on the Internet anymore, but I have the patterns on my computer. Send me a D-mail with your email address and I'll send them to you in pdf format. BTW, I like the knitted pattern better - not as stiff. I'm presently knitting a couple of pair in a larger size for my Grand-twins who are 6. That took some adapting.
But this year, instead of knitting the fiddly loops for the beard I used one strand of eyelash yarn with the regular white worsted. Reversed it too - so the the purl side was outside as it was fluffier. There's a pic of this year's edition at: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=5755293
