I am sorry for taking so long to answer your question. The fruit is edible; however, they are very, very small as are the seed and usually just the leaves and stems are eaten. The new leaves and shoots taste better than the older ones. The purplish sap from the fruit is used as a food coloring in pastries and sweets. I have never tried eating the fruit so I do not know how they taste. I guess I should try some. The juice from the fruit is used as a dye also. The color is intensified if a small amount of lemon juice is added.
I tasted the fruit. It has a strong spinachy taste and has very little pulp.
